FINDING
Economic contribution improved by $260,000 even as cost-to-serve increased from 10.5% to 12.1% of revenue. Sequence-neutral attribution assigns −$100,000 to transaction scale, −$105,000 to higher service intensity, −$105,000 to service unit cost, and −$30,000 to commission / payment burden after the +$600,000 gross-contribution improvement. In the forward support redesign, 5,310 service contacts are avoided across the six-month horizon. 1,995 of those contacts absorb transaction growth before service demand falls below the Period B run rate. The remaining surplus creates $33,155 of gross service-cost opportunity, of which $26,030 is capturable under the entered flexibility and release timing. After the $20,000 redesign commitment, net in-horizon value is +$6,030 and payback occurs in M5.
METHOD STATUS
Management-entered assumptions. Gross contribution equals revenue less direct product or service cost. Transaction-linked service burden equals transaction volume multiplied by the sum of service-event intensity multiplied by service-event unit cost for fulfillment, support, and returns / rework. Transaction volume, service-event intensity, and service-event unit cost are moved from Period A to Period B in every possible ordering, and each mechanism receives its average marginal effect on transaction-linked service burden. Those service-cost effects are shown with contribution signs, so higher burden appears as a negative contribution effect. Commission / payment burden equals revenue multiplied by the entered commission / payment rate and is isolated separately. Gross contribution plus the four service-burden effects reconciles exactly to Period B less Period A economic contribution. The forward service redesign starts from the selected Period B mechanism. Monthly transactions grow linearly from the Period B run rate to the entered end-of-horizon growth rate. The target event-rate reduction phases in linearly through the entered realization month. Avoided service events first absorb service demand created by transaction growth above the Period B monthly event run rate. Only avoided events that push selected-service demand below the Period B monthly event run rate create service-cost takeout opportunity. That opportunity is valued at the Period B selected-service unit cost. Before the entered release month none of the opportunity is treated as realized cost reduction. From the release month onward, realized reduction is capped by the entered flexible share of the Period B monthly selected-service cost. The remainder is stranded. The one-time redesign cost is charged in M1. No external cost-to-serve, service-intensity, event-cost, transaction-growth, flexibility, or redesign benchmark is used.
